App Review
"Let's Create! Pottery HD Lite"
How did you find out about the app?
While searching for an app to review I decided that I wanted to review an art/creative type of app. I used words “art” and “creative” to try and find an app. Then I came across one about pottery after searching the word “pottery” in the app store. What is the app about? What does it do? Does it cost anything? The app is about wheel throwing. When you first start playing the app sends you emails as if an actual person was asking you to make pottery for them. It will send about 5 emails, giving you practice and earning coins. In the emails the person sends you a picture of what they want created and while you’re working on it there are stars that let you know how accurate the piece is to the photo. You can wheel throw, fire and paint the pottery. You can also purchase some feature through earning coins from “selling” the pottery. When you choose to sell the pottery, it goes to this scene where it is being auctioned off. Downloading this version of the app is free however, it does offer the option to purchase the full version to access other features of the app, downloading the full version is $4.99. With the full version you also get more messages from “people” asking for custom pieces. How did you learn how to use it? Was it easy? Were there good instructions? How quickly do you think someone else could learn to use it? Are there any tutorials or videos that helped you figure it out? The instructions were basic in terms of learning how to use the app, it was easy. To build your pottery piece you had to drag you finger up and down to add or take the height away. And then drag your finger horizontally to add or take away width, pinch with two fingers also helps when making a piece thin. If someone else were to download this app they would have an easy time learning to use the app. There weren’t any tutorials to watch. How do you foresee using this in the classroom? Would this be something that middle school or high school students could use? Do you see any potential problems with it? What would be the biggest advantage to using it? Are there skills you can build using this? Although this version of the app provides basic tools it is still useful for creating thumbnails of simple pottery designs. This app would be used to introduce clay and pottery to a class. In terms of the lesson plan this would be introduced to them as an anticipatory set that can get them used to how they can manipulate clay to create something, also with the features that are available for designing they can experiment with the designs that are provided. Although this would be an exercise to create thumbnails for their actual pottery pieces, they are not limited to just creating thumbnails with this app. This app would be something that can be introduced to middle or high schoolers. Potential problems would be that this app is only available to those with an Iphone, Ipad or Ipod touch, so accessibility would be an issue for those who don’t have these. Creating thumbnails is a small process that is has a small part in the creative process. Thumbnails would traditionally be put in a sketch book or sketch pad; a phone can be used as a digital sketchbook with this kind of app. |
